Welcome to the BABE Lab!
Our lab focuses on discovering ways to help teenagers appreciate their bodies while learning healthy eating habits, gaining nutrition knowledge, and preventing binge eating behaviors. Led by Doctoral Student and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Nkechi Okpara, in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina, our team is recruiting for two upcoming studies:
Study 1: Focus Group Discussions (Currently Enrolling)!
The purpose of the focus group discussion is to understand (1) common nutrition and eating concerns that teenagers have, (2) nutrition topics and trends that interest teenage girls, (3) the pressures of social media and its effect on body image, and (4) what an ideal nutrition program would look like for teenage girls. All girls will receive a $20 gift card of anywhere of choice, after the completion of the groups. If you are interested in participating in the focus groups, click here to fill out a quick eligibility survey! *We are no longer recruiting for the focus groups.
Study 2: Body Appreciation & Better Eating (BABE) Program (Feburary and March 2023)!
The purpose of this 6-session virtual program is to help girls improve their body image and to provide girls with nutrition education. Lessons will be done in a fun, interactive, and intimate setting. All girls will receive gift cards up to $40 and $10 worth of goods for their participation in this study.
